Introduction
This project was inspired by a chance visit to the âMuseum of Broken Relationshipsâ in Zagreb, Croatia, in June 2023, by two delegates who were attending the annual EAEA (European Association for the Education of Adults) Conference, on behalf of their respective organisations â Adult Learning Wales, UK and the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, Portugal.
Over the past year, the two organisations have worked closely together to curate something very unique! The result of these endeavours is the creation of a fabulous website for the showcasing of learner work, which will allow ALE, ACL, FE and HE organisations from across the globe, to upload their learnersâ work (on the topic of the significance of specific artefacts from a past relationship) so that their work can be given an international audience and be celebrated by many.
Continue reading…Each Organisation will be given its own âGalleryâ within the âLibraryâ, and each Organisation will be given an account to upload their learnersâ work. We anticipate that this âLibraryâ of resources (captured in our innovative 3D virtual gallery) will also become a very useful âresourceâ bank in itself, for classroom practitioners, in the use of the âShow and Tellâ teaching strategy.
The âShow and Tellâ teaching strategy is mainly associated with the pedagogy of the âPrimary Schoolâ classroom. What the Pilot of the Project (conducted at Adult Learning Wales, UK) has shown us, is that it can be very easily and successfully transferred into the âAdult Learningâ classroom, also. By producing and sharing their stories, learners in our Pilot have worked on developing their receptive and productive communication skills, and we have seen a growing confidence and increase in learner motivation and much more focused interest in âlearner voiceâ.
The âMuseum of Broken Relationshipsâ in Zagreb displays artefacts, donated by people from across the globe, wanting to share their stories and experiences of the significance of those objects within a past relationship. It is a very simple, yet engaging concept.
This project will give learners from across Europe (and indeed the world) the opportunity to share their stories, on a range of relationships, through artefacts of their choice.
The Project will give learners an opportunity to strengthen their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, whilst giving them a platform to showcase their own work. The âShow and Tellâ teaching strategy that the Project has focused on has been successfully embedded into a range of curriculum areas â not just âliteracyâ classes – and will be of particular interest to coordinators and classroom practitioners of subjects as diverse as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), WSOL (Welsh for Speakers of Other Languages), any language (as a second language), Digital Literacy, Art, Photography and Health and Wellbeing, to name but a few.
The possibilities of embedding this work into a number of curriculum areas, are endless.
If you have are ready to âSign-Upâ your organisation, please do register! (Only one member of staff from each organisation is required to register their organisationâs interest in the Project).
